"Rolls & Rudiments Using Time and Tempo"
This technique was created by me almost 20 years ago. I am writing this in verbal format, as I have found that students understand the method of adaptation better this way.
This technique builder is used for making sounding notes, both in rolling and ghost note formats including clarity during solo's and drum breaks. This can be put to practice with or without music, but it does tend to be more fun and challenging playing along to different types of music styles from a CD. You must remember that you cannot stick to one style of music, this is where the adaptation becomes extremely important in the long term.
HOW IT WORKS: (Step 1)
You get to pick a CD of choice to start, in the first step, you can play along with a rhythm that fits your choice of music, but only for 2 minutes, NO LONGER!
Restart the CD, but this time there is no rhythm allowed, you must use rolls, (i.e., single stroke, buzz, LL-R, RR-L, combo rolls of choice), they must be played in tempo and time of your music choice.
SETTING THE TEMPO/TIME AT "1" (Step 2)
Restart your CD again, continue to play in time using the same method described above, (Make sure your counting), but this time when your counting takes you to the #1, you may crash or TAP a cymbal of choice.
DON'T:
Play any drum rhythms after step #1; this is very important! The technique is forcing you to count and pay attention to finger and wrist control. If you feel any discomfort in your wrists, arms, shoulders, fingers...STOP! Please contact me if any of these occur.
GOOD LUCK! HAVE FUN, and LEARN!!!
